I didn't know Esther well. She was a friend of friends. After she passed away, there was a box filled with snapshots she'd taken. Many were recognizable theatre celebs of long ago. Other photos were of her and others. Some photos had inscriptions on the reverse, which I've noted. Others had nothing. This box was destined for the trash bin. I saved it.

THE MIMI BERRY MEMORIAL SCRAPBOOK

I knew Esther Zidel through friends. I know very little about her. Esther passed away February 11, 2009. Recently, I became the custodian of some of her belongings, specifically, a scrapbook from the 40s, the contents of which follows.

Hello. Just found your blog browsing around google. Very interesting stuff here on Mimi Berry. She was one beautiful lady. I just recently started collecting memorabilia of hers, but pickings are admittedly slim. Is there any chance you would be willing to sell everything you have related to Mimi? I apologize if that's out of line, just figured it was worth a shot to ask. Thank you.

Hello. I messaged you yesterday and I apologize if I'm being a nuisance. But I never posted on a "blog" before so I'm not sure how to do it, and I see no way to send you a private e-mail, and I realized afterwards I left no way for you to contact me. But I am collecting Mimi Berry memorabilia. There's very little of her around to collect though since she had a relatively short career and didn't achieve a certain level of fame. I've only managed to find a few 8 x 10's and a really nice signed photo of her at 13 years of age. The point of my contact is that, if you're ever willing to part with the Mimi Berry stuff that you have, i.e. scrapbook, candid photos, greeting cards, autographs, etc., please keep me in mind. I'd be willing to buy it all for a fair price. And these would be greatly appreciated and valued as part of my collection - not for resale. My name is Stephen and I live in Pennsylvania. If you're ever interested my e-mail is 1sfverm@gmail.com. Thank you.

Hello. I'm sorry about all that. And no, I'm not spam. What happened was I created a new e-mail account for you to message me, as I didn't want my "regular" e-mail to get bombarded with spam if this was posted publicly. When I didn't hear from you after a while I just deleted that e-mail as I thought you weren't going to respond. Anyway I created a new e-mail if you would like to contact me. I'm still interested in your Mimi Berry stuff. My e-mail is 1sfverm1@gmail.com. Thank you.

Hello again Matthew! Long time no hear. I have a different e-mail address now but if you're ever willing to part with the rest of Esther's snapshots, please let me know at sverm6210@gmail.com. I'd love to add them to the collection. :-) I know, I know - months later and I'm still being a 'noodge'. Hope things are well. -- Stephen

Hello there! My name is Leia Jane, and as I am writing this, I am wearing my great Auntie Esther’s monogrammed gold ring - I have been fascinated by any stories of her that my father would share with me for years, and was devastated that I never truly got to know her. If there is any way that we can connect, I would absolutely be thrilled to learn anything I can about her and her life. As a big part of the LGBTQ+ community myself, I feel such a kinship with her, and have poured over your pictures of her just to feel a little closer to my great aunt. If we can connect, that would truly make my life! I’d love to learn anything I can. Thank you!
