A BUTCH GAL THAT HAD STARS IN HER EYES.
FAN? STALKER? ESTHER'S LOVE FOR THE THEATRE IS DISPLAYED HERE AS WELL AS OTHER FLOTSAM FROM ESTHER'S PRIVATE WORLD, A GLIMPSE OF 1950s GAY LIFE.
I didn't know Esther well. She was a friend of friends. After she passed away, there was a box filled with snapshots she'd taken. Many were recognizable theatre celebs of long ago. Other photos were of her and others. Some photos had inscriptions on the reverse, which I've noted. Others had nothing. This box was destined for the trash bin. I saved it.

Oh, jeez, poor James Dunn. He looks as though he could play anything in O'Neill's fun fests with ease. This is literally Shubert Alley in Boston. The building to Dunn's left is the Shubert, the scene of many out of town triumphs and swandives. The building across the street is now the Wang Theatre(formerly The Metropolitan Theatre). The basic facade is essentially the same.
