I didn't know Esther well. She was a friend of friends. After she passed away, there was a box filled with snapshots she'd taken. Many were recognizable theatre celebs of long ago. Other photos were of her and others. Some photos had inscriptions on the reverse, which I've noted. Others had nothing. This box was destined for the trash bin. I saved it.

"SHUBERT- 3 AFTER 3 1940" Simone Simone




"Three After Three" was a George Abbott-Hoagy Carmichael-Johnny Mercer show that closed out of town (January-February, 1940). Starred Simone Simon (!), Mary Brian and Mitzi Green, who were replaced (Simon and Brian were, anyway) by the time the show got to NYC (in June), where it was called "Walk With Music," and it still bombed.
